Bearing Witness to the Light XLVII...Eutychus Lives!
It took 20 years for me to delve into this biblical account
to mine TRUTH at the heart of the narrative.
E U T Y C H U S
a beautifully sounding name
Good Fortune
is its meaning in Greek
My uncle John fell out of a window
in the Bronx, New York
as a child in the 1920's.
I wonder if his family
prayed to St. Paul?
So why the current attraction
to Chapter 20 of Acts of the Apostles?
Listening to the account might provide clues to the answer:

The miracle occurred around 58 AD.
It was towards the end of
St. Paul's Third Missionary Journey.
It was at the time of the Passover (Holy Week).
He was enroute to Jerusalem with funds
he had raised for the support of the Church.
St. Paul
was celebrating
The Lord's Supper
on the Lord's Day
i.e. Mass
PAUL IS IN THE LITURGY
OF THE WORD
EUTYCHUS

PAUL

BREAD (HOLY COMMUNION)
And the upper room
was filled with lamps
(light and smoke)
A peculiar detail that seems
tp witness to the profound
presence of the
Holy Spirit.
If it looks like Mass/Divine Liturgy
and if it sounds like Mass/Divine Liturgy
It surely must be that (Bishop?) St. Paul
(without a home See)
was presiding at/celebrating
HOLY
MASS
So why do we never see
St. Paul in film
in persona Christi?
This seems to be a perfect moment to portray
the source/center/summit of his ministry,
If he provided MASS here,
he did so everywhere he traveled
and now coupled with the letter he wrote
from Ephesus midway in the outbound half
of this his third missionary journey
circa 57 AD:
