November 22, 1963 - Three Johns and the Pursuit of Happiness

J.M.J. + O.B.T. + M.G.R.*

A curious sidebar to the simultaneous passing of Aldous Huxley, CS Lewis and President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963 is their individual take on the "pursuit of happiness" as revealed in the books: Brave New World (1932), Pilgrim's Regress (1933), and Profiles in Courage (1955). Each work introduces us to a character named John. Each describes a situtation that seems eerily familiar in this day and age. Each hints at future conditions ripe for Jesus' Second Coming to find those who hold true to the faith til the very end, i.e., the real courageous few who run the good race, suffer on account of His Name and are found worthy of the eternal reward and true happiness. Let us all hope to be numbered among those successful long distance runners.

John, the Savage...seeking virtuous life, yet curious of the other side.

The Brave New World, features a John who is destined to learn about humanity's darker side and experience it by immersion. After coming to see this new age, the dark side of globalism/birth control/dehumanization he is driven to a frenzied masochistic flagellation at book's end. Will we too see people unable to handle the truth of what we have become in the light of the globalist day that is dawning?

John, the Pilgrim...seeking the Island of his Dreams, life's adventures

The Pilgrim's Regress, features a John who recklessly seeks adventure in the land of the spiritually dead and dying. This young man learns the courage to be guided by the Spirit through life's many challenging exeriences. He eventually finds the Truth that leads to the Light on the High Ground, the mountain we see, although dimly, i.e., Christianity. Will we be able to ride out this storm—as the American Dream turns into a nightmare—and hang on to the only real thing that matters, our very souls?

John, the Wouldbe Prince...seeking the Presidency of the United States

Profiles in Courage, a Pulitzer Prize winning book recently confirmed to have been written by Ted Sorensen and not JFK, catapaulted John to celebrity and eventually the White House, the Camelot of America. The Kennedy family's pursuit of happiness via politics is legendary, so is the curse that seems to deny them the enjoyment of the victory of true happiness here on earth. Now with Barack Hussein Obama's and his Audicity of Hope book, his attempt to garner the same media attention and popular elevation to princedom and the White House do we not see a repeat performance of a Senator who promises much more than he can deliver?

Fool us once shame on you,
fool us twice shame on us!

"Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in.
Aim at earth and you get neither."
CS Lewis

For the real pursuit of happiness
is a story already written

St. Luke and St. John, the Beloved Disciple

"Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven?
This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven,
will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."

ACTS 1:11

"Then the angel showed me the river of life,
rising from the throne of God and of the Lamb
and flowing crystal-clear."

REVELATION 22:1

Yes, it's crystal clear
