St. Thomas Aquinas' doctrine of transcendentals is a cornerstone of Thomistic philosophy. The concept that Truth, Goodness and Beauty are "transcendentally one" is a Trinitarian mark of God's creative genius (3 in 1). 'Being' is apprehended via different modalities: Truth is being as known, Goodness is being as rightly desired, and Beauty is being as rightly admired. A modern theologian, the author Peter Kreeft describes Truth as being's imprint on the mind, Goodness as being's imprint on the will, and Beauty as being's imprint on the emotions.

Think about this as you gaze at the Crucifix on the far western coast of the Emerald Isle. Light is what is known, Life is what is good and Love is strongly felt.
