Is there a spiritual formula that tells us how God’s spiritual energy works?
It is this writer’s thinking that just such a formula does exist and works in the spiritual realm in somewhat the same way that Einstein’s formula works in the physical realm.
If we take Einstein’s equation E=mc2 equation and define it in the following manner, it explains how spiritual energy is released. The formula now becomes SE=mc2. SE is now defined as "spiritual energy." This will then replace the physical energy "E" part of the equation. The "m" in Einstein’s formula is the scientific notation for "mass." In this spiritual formula, "m" is defined as the "mass of mankind." c2 of is now defined as the constant of God’s communication media (by means of the Holy Spirit) the (2) squared is the combined entity of God the Father and God the Son.
The magnitude of spiritual energy then becomes dependent upon those who have the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. Scripture tells us that when a person becomes a believer, he is given the gift of the Holy Spirit. When a believer has the gift of the Holy Spirit, he has the power to create spiritual energy through his communication with God the Father and God the Son.
God’s chosen vehicle of communication between Himself and believers is prayer! (And it is not limited by the speed of light!) It is by our prayers that believers create spiritual energy. The more we pray the more spiritual energy is created. Therefore, believers who do not pray regularly diminish the amount of spiritual energy that God can make available to counter the evil of this world. It is by the spiritual energy of prayer that God brings spiritual light into the sin-darkened hearts of fallen man.
God’s spiritual energy multiplies His works!
The early church was extremely powerful. They were not powerful because of who they were, but because they understood the source of their power and used it constantly. The source of their power was the Holy Spirit and they were in constant communication with the risen Lord through prayer. Because they were dependent upon prayer, the teaching and guidance of the Lord through the Holy Spirit, they used God’s law of multiplication to empower everything they did. The evil of the world around them could not withstand the proliferation of the Gospel message and the hope it brought.
Jesus himself taught them the basics of this law and how it was to work. It was important enough that all four Gospel writers made note of it. We know it as the "Parable of the Sower." In this parable, Jesus teaches that God’s Word, when it is sown, will produce much increase. When we preface everything we do with prayer, that is – consult the Lord of the Harvest – our prayers are answered and multiplied far beyond our expectation because it is God working His Plan through us. We, through prayer, become the magnifying lens that Our Lord Jesus uses to empower the work of the Gospel. When we pray, God does miraculous things. When we fail to pray, we give permissive power to the evil in this world to prevail.
How then does God’s law of multiplication and empowerment work? In the Scriptures, let us look at Matthew 13:23 (or, Mark 4:20). Jesus says the following, "But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown." Here Jesus tells us His basic law of multiplication. If we are faithful and obedient to His commands, He will see that we will produce a crop of 100, 60 or 30 times what was sown. His law of multiplication applies to all spiritual, as well as physical activities!
Hence, when we pray first, He will multiply our prayers as well as the physical actions that follow, when we put feet to our prayers. How do we know this to be true? Let us look at some history of the early church and several periods of revival over the past two hundred years.
By the year 300, the influence of the early church had become so great that when Constantine (who professed to be a Christian) became Emperor, he made Christianity the state religion. From the time that Jesus was crucified about 30 A.D., the Roman Empire tried to exterminate this radical religious group that refused to bow to the Emperor. Now three hundred years later, instead of being wiped out, it became the accepted State Religion. This is an emphatic statement about God’s law of multiplication and empowerment!
In church history, many examples of powerful revivals exist. "Jonathan Edwards’ Call to Prayer brought the great awakening (1731-1735) in our nation. The wondrous revival of 1857 was brought by city missionary Landfear’s stirring the Christians of New York City to prayer. It was the prayer of the four humble Christians of Kells, and the prayers of others, that brought the marvelous Ulster Revival of 1859-60… Also the great Welsh revival of 1904." (PF Torrey pg 161).
The Moravian community of Herrnhut on the eastern edge of Germany began a century of prayer and constant revival on August 13, 1727. (See PG Red Moon pg 38) This season of prayer and missionary effort saw the spread of the Gospel to many backward areas of the world. It also witnessed the birth of a new nation on the North American continent. Many other wonderful stories and acts of grace also came from that 100 year prayer session. God had truly multiplied His power throughout the known world of that day.
God will use His Children in glorious ways if they are obedient in prayer. It is evident from past revivals and comments from great church leaders that prayer is the fuel for evangelism. Without prayer, evangelism falters. It becomes an intellectual activity fueled by the manmade efforts of church committees. It falters because it is not the plan of God to give human effort any credit for souls being saved. It is only by the power of the Almighty Sovereign of the Universe to draw the lost to the loving arms of our Savior Jesus Christ. He uses praying believers as the focal point for the explosive power created by His Holy Spirit.
What would it take today for God to produce a spiritual Hiroshima?
It would take the body of today’s believers, the Church, to fervently seek God’s spiritual law of multiplication. To do this, would empower today’s believers. Let us see just how this might work.
If we take just the top twelve Protestant church groups today who are estimated to have about 65 million members and a half million congregations and get them praying fervently, it would produce a spiritual Hiroshima! How do we figure this?
Let’s do the math. If we have a five member prayer group, in each congregation that prays just one hour per week. That would mean there would be two and half million people praying one hour each week. Now let’s apply God’s law of spiritual multiplication and use the lowest figure of thirty (30) as a multiplication factor. Then 30 times 2.5 million would impact 75 million prayer targets as a result of a half million congregations praying for just one hour per week.
If just ten percent of the present church membership would pray for just one hour per week, that figure would increase to about 200 million prayer targets. For every additional hour of "fervent prayer" the figure would increase by another 200 million. If just 10% of the church in the U. S. would pray for a 12 hour period every week, more than 3 billion prayer targets would be touched by believer empowered prayers.
In effect, a little over two weeks of such prayers would impact a number equivalent to the entire population of today’s world. A consistent practice by the church body of "fervent prayer" in this manner would produce a spiritual revolution around the world. Or, we could say that God’s energy released by praying believers would produce a "Spiritual Hiroshima!"
