Seems right to say here that if one tries to describe the complete Truth of the Holy Eucharist one must use the words: light, life and love.

Next, we see a Reformation Age Protestant Dr. Owen (1654) take on the 3 L's relation to communion. Notice how it is wrong (relative to man's total depravity) and yet right relative to describing communion with the words light, life and love:

Isn't it sad how from the Protestant perspective, the word and concept of communion so often leads to the conclusion that people as holy as the Blessed Mother, St. Joseph and St. John the Baptist had no close relations (no communion) with God until Jesus died on the cross with our sins.

would garner worldwide attention.

YOUNG GIRL DIES AFTER CATHOLIC PRIEST
ANSWERS HER PRAYER AND GIVES HER HOST

AP (Bologna)- Imelda Lambertini died yesterday. Her supple fragrant body was sent to the crypt morgue as local police began seeking clues for the cause of her sudden demise at 7:33 am Sunday. Unofficial reports are coming in from all quarters, some with quite outlandish claims of supernatural phenomena. The Catholic priest's name is being withheld pending further investigation/charges.

What we do know for certain is that Imelda was 11 years old and apparently in excellent health. From all accounts she was a "special" child. She was drawn to seek goodness (holiness is the word most often cited) from a very early age and she worked hard to please all who met her. Eventually it was decided that she be a sent to a Dominican convent to fulfill her life as a religious nun. She apparently spend many hours in chapel on her knees praying. She spoke openly about her heart's great desire to those near her. Count Lambertini, her father relayed this request to her priest. The expressed wish of this young girl was to receive Jesus in what Catholics call First Holy Communion.* The local pastor issued a denial for what seems to be three years. The reason cited was Imelda's immaturity—she had to wait until her 14th birthday for this longed for event to occur.

On Sunday morning at first light, all this changed.

Imelda knelt "frozen" in place after early morning Mass. She was surrounded by "an aura" as she gazed at the tabernacle. Other nuns described it as "a spotlight." Still others called it a "little sun." All agreed that they have never seen anything like it. Twenty minutes passed. A postulant was dispatched to go get Father ___ who was in the rectory. When Father ___ returned and witnessed the light and the motionless child and when he beheld the expression on Imelda's face he immediately took action. He knelt, blessed himself and recovered what appeared to be a small, round, white piece of flat bread (a host) that was suspended in mid-air above the young girl. He then placed this glowing host on Imelda's tongue which willingly accepted it. She said the word "Amen" (which means "so be it") closed her eyes, collapsed and died.

Unsubstantiated rumors are circulating on the internet and especially the social media outlets. This is causing problems with the two investigations that now ongoing. The Catholic Church and the Bologna Department of Police are each attempting to put this event into proper perspective.

The above slide from Creation Lens.org provides an interesting window of light on the subject of the physical and spiritual forms of energy. This lesson is provided to third grade students. There is hope of getting modern man to see the wisdom with which God created all things in relationship to who He is, but we first might have to become like 9 year olds again. Then maybe we may see the LIGHT.

We Three Kings of RGB Are...

I marvel at our Eastern Orthodox brethren for their profound use
and appreciation of color in iconography.

On the Latin side of the fence we appreciate20 + C + M + B + 12 The Epiphany Inscription

The letters have two meanings. They are the initials of the traditional names of the Three Magi: Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. They also abbreviate the Latin words Christus mansionem benedicat. May Christ bless the house.” The letters recall the day on which the inscription is made, as well as the purpose of blessing.

The crosses represent the protection of the Precious Blood of Christ, Whose Sacred Name we invoke, and also the holiness of the Three Magi sanctified by their adoration of the Infant Christ.

The inscription is made above the front door, so that all who enter and depart this year may enjoy God's blessing. The month of January still bears the name of the Roman god Janus, the doorkeeper of heaven and protector of the beginning and end of things. This blessing "christens" the ancient Roman observance of the first month. The inscription is made of chalk, a product of clay, which recalls the human nature taken by the Adorable and Eternal Word of God in the womb of the Virgin Mary, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

To bless your home this Epiphany, first read the Prologue of Saint John's Gospel, followed by the Our Father, and the Collect of the Epiphany; then write the inscription for this year above your front door with blessed chalk.

In the article we read the key line:

"Ultraviolet lasers producing extremely brief pulses of light."

I had never heard of VUV (Vacuum UltraViolet) radiation before today. I did know that one very brief pulse of light travels at light speed, nearly 3 x 10⁸meters/second....what might be termed God Speed in space-time. I also knew that this ultimate speed limit is achieved in a perfect vacuum.

Now it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to see the logic of the statement, "where matter is completely absent (the definition of a perfect vacuum), the spirit has complete reign." This also means that in a vacuum, one can expect to encounter both good and bad spirits.

Natural imperfect vacuums exist only rarely here on earth. The vortex of draining sinkholes and cyclones are a beginning, but they are far from empty. Trees "suck" sap up vertically through the sapwood, but they too are imperfect.

Ponder this scientific fact:

"High to ultra-high vacuum removes the obstruction of air, allowing particle beams to deposit or remove materials without contamination."

Now consider the ultimate vacuum that must have been created when the Crucified Christ (the Living God, through whom all things were made) descending to the dead.

Imagine what His reemergence in the stone cave accomplished, when the now glorified (uncontaminated) body returned to the land of the living.

The Shroud of Turin's image—based on a single pulse of spiritual Vacuum Ultraviolet Light—seems to account for this.

A first shopping trip to the commercial center of Corpus Christi this holiday season provided a sobering glimpse of Christmas preparations in this city of 300,000. Something was sorely missing. It wasn't snow or caroling. No, it was something more familiar, more visceral, more do I dare say human?

It seemed as if people were suffering from radiation sickness. It felt as if minds were dulled, as if hearts were cold stone. It seemed as if my wife and I were playing lead in an episode of the Twilight Zone.

Why is everything so discombobulated?

Why did God suddenly call Fr. Santan Pinto, SOLT to eternal rest? So young, at only 63 years of age.

Why is the Christmas music saccharine to my ears?

Why is are the Christmas cookies bitter and brittle?

What is going on?

As I hear the green jays assembling in our back yard, 30 minutes before sunrise, I realize that it is the song of creation that is missing. We are now deeply embedded in the STEMification of humanity. A transformation of our nature that is anything but natural. This transformation is being dictated by the controlling forces of the world, not the creative Spirit of God.

We should be in a limestone cave right now, waiting for the True Light.

We should be with the animals and the shepherds.

We should be deep in prayer and self sacrifice.

We should be at peace.

Mehmed II (Mohammed II) made Constantinople (present-day Istanbul) the new capital of the Ottoman Empire, and he assumed the title of Kayser-i Rûm (Caesar Romanus = Roman Emperor). The Russian Tsars also claimed to be the successors to the eastern imperial title. To consolidate his claim, Mehmed II wanted to gain control over the Western capital, Rome, and Ottoman forces occupied parts of the Italian Peninsula. They started with the invasion of Otranto and Apulia on 28 July 1480. After Mehmed II's death on 3 May 1481 the campaign in Italy was cancelled and Ottoman forces retreated.

In our previous posting we introduced the Golden Lamp Stand as one of the objects found inside the Holy Place of the Tabernacle. We identified that the purpose of the Lamp Stand is to illuminate the bread found on the Table of Show Bread. We also demonstrated that this bread is symbolic of the Bread of Life, which in turn, is Jesus our Lord and Savior.

As in our postings about the Table of Show Bread, we will initiate our analysis by looking at what the words of Jesus have to say about His identity. We will then present a series of events that reveal how the truth of this statement was supported in the form of miracles.

Here are the words of Jesus declaring to be the Light of the World:

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

By claiming to be the Light of the World, Jesus is proclaiming that He is the living Lamp Stand that came down from heaven. After all, Jesus came to earth to help us see that He is the Bread of Life, the Christ and the Son of God.

Here is a scripture that supports the proposition that Jesus is the Light of the World:

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:1-5)

Jesus is the Light of the World because He illuminates the pathway to the Father, which He did for His disciples in the above scripture.

The Principles of the Light of the World

In looking at the life of Jesus as the Light of the World, we find several key traits that can be used in molding our own lives to that of Christ Jesus. One such trait is to illuminate the pathway to the Father to others, just as Jesus did. Being a light to others means that our good works should be visible to others so that the goodness of God is clearly seen. Our lives should enable them to understand what we are and what we believe. Therefore, those around us will not be surprised that we are a Christian. We should be a light to others so that they will not stumble in the darkness, but rather, have the everlasting light of Jesus. Read the words of Jesus in regard to becoming a light for others:

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-6)

In this scripture Jesus passes the purpose of the Lamp Stand on to His disciples who are to be held on high to dispense the light of Gods own Son to everyone in the world. The key principle is that it is the mission of every Christian to be light to those around us. We must illuminate the truth that God gives to our fellow man. Like the Golden Lamp Stand we must illuminate the Table of Showbread and the Holy Place of God. Therefore we must illuminate Jesus who is the light of the world, the bread of life, the only begotten Son of God. We must illuminate the fact that Jesus came to tell us the Fathers Truth, that He came to save us from our own sin and that He is the Savior of the world.

Another principle discovered at the Golden Lamp Stand is to become enlightened through prayer in the Holy Place of God.

Jesus turned to prayer to seek guidance from the Father and we should do likewise. It is critical that we get our guidance in the Holy Place. The following passage is a good example of Jesus getting His direction from the Father through prayer:

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Then He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, “What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:36-41)

This is what coming to the Golden Lamp Stand was all about. In this example Jesus is getting directions from the Father that seem counter intuitive and illogical to our earthly mind, yet they are very effective in achieving God’s purpose. As in Jesus’ case this guidance came through prayer. It is prayer that comes once we are inside the Holy Place that illuminates our pathway. In addition, remember that the seven globes of the Lamp Stand represent the perfect vision of the Father. It is this all knowing vision that enables the Father to guide us when we pray an enable us to setting our course as well as avoid obstacles. This guidance is essential to proceeding effectively toward our mission.

So, we as imitators of God seek to become more like Jesus who is the Golden Lamp Stand, in the following ways:

Enter into the Holy Place in your Prayer Life

We must move from the Outer Court and into the Holy Place of the inner courtyard. We need to get past our sinful nature that drives us back to the outer court yard begging for forgiveness. To enter into enlightened prayer in the Holy Place we must become a fundamentally changed people who can live with a pure heart, not desiring the world or anything in it.

Your prayers in the Holy Place fill the bowls of the Lamp Stand with the oil that illuminates Jesus, the Bread of Life and enables you to see the truth (after all you have passed through the door call the Truth). Your prayer will illuminate your walk with God and the anointing oil of the Lord will cover you such that you can be a light unto others.

Seek God for Direction

Our prayer time then becomes a time of communication. We seek closeness with God and God in turn illuminates our path.

Be Visible

Our actions and life need to be visible to others. The world must know that we follow in the steps directed by our Father. Do not be dismayed if the things that God shows you seem to be impossible. The best way to be visible is to set out and attempt the impossible and proclaim it to the world. After all, if we only attempt what we can achieve then where does God fit in? He certainly gets no glory from our independent actions. But if we undertake the impossible in the name of God, then God will support our actions with miracles that make the impossible possible. Others see what God has done and are impacted by their experience. Most importantly, God gets the glory that He justly deserves.

Be a Light to Others

Let your actions, words and life be an inspiration to others. When they see God’s favor in your life they will look to you for guidance. Point them toward Jesus. Disciple them and nurture them in the way of the Lord.

Expect Miracles to Follow the Truth from God

Speak the truth of your enlightenment to others and expect the power of God to support your action with His miraculous power through the Holy Spirit. Step out in faith, do what He puts in your heart and expect Him to do what you cannot:

So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts. ‘Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bringforth the capstone With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”“ (Zec 4:6-7)

Divine Liturgy...Informative–Performative–Transformative

Dr. Scott Hahn's Covenant and Communion, a reflection on Pope Benedict XVI's collected works is a treasure trove. As I pondered this ambitious effort, beginning on page 180 this morning, I knew I would be blogging about Our Holy Father's perspective of ultimate Truth. Dr. Hahn starts with the words, "Benedict's vision here is breathtaking..."

He goes on, and I summarize: The actio divina divine action (energeia) of the divine liturgy (Mass) is informative (through Christ's speech), performative (through Christ's active suffering), and transformative (through Christ's gift of love).

This is truly revolutionary. When we the Mystical Body of Christ begin to fully appreciate our role in the cosmic liturgy we will allow ourselves to be informed (lectio divina); we will perform as co-responsible members (offering our very lives in Mass as befitting our common priesthood); we will be living instruments of the Holy Spirit's tranformative love in the world (constant conversion).

Our quest must be to use all means possible to communicate this truth to the world.

Dr. Hahn ends the section with the explanation:

"Benedict integrates modern rhetorical insights into Scripture, especially speech-act theories with the perspectives of liturgical theology and metaphysics in order to articulate a compelling, bibilically grounded understanding of what truly happens in the divine liturgy."

Sounds like an undivided heart to me...

Light – Life – Love

One day when I had been assigned to give a Wednesday night devotional, I sat on the patio to think about a subject pertaining to God. I began by considering the question, “What are three words that help describe the awesomeness of God?” Almost immediately three words came into my mind—all three beginning with the letter “L”! The words were “LIGHT,” “LIFE,” and “LOVE.” Then it occurred to me that these three words are important throughout the Bible.

Therefore, would you please study with me the importance of these three words as they relate to God?

GOD AND LIGHT

Almost immediately the Bible begins with God and light. As Moses recorded the days of creation, on the first day and the first thing that God made was light. “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). Then as we read further to the fourth day of creation, we learn that God resumed the subject of light. “Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also” (Genesis 1:16). Therefore, light is essential for all the other things in God’s creation.

However, the Bible gives even a greater importance to light, because light is used to describe God. Centuries later, the Holy Spirit guided the apostle John to write, “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).

Before Jesus made His appearance on this earth, Malachi, the last recorded Old Testament prophet announced, “The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings” (Malachi 4:2). When the apostle John introduced Jesus as the Word in his book, he wrote: “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4).

The sinful world did not like this light from heaven exposing their darkness on earth, but this did not stop Jesus from shining. He taught: “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19).

All through His ministry, Jesus showed the world the light of God. In fact, He identified Himself as being the “light of the world,” John 8:12, and taught His disciples to be reflectors of His light (Matthew 5:14-16). Christians are also commanded to walk in the light of God so they can enjoy fellowship with one another and the cleansing blood of Jesus (1 John 1:7). Without doubt, light is an essential word to describe God!

GOD AND LIFE

After God made light, He then used His power to make life. From the smallest creature to the largest animals that roam the land and swim in the sea, God gave all of them life. But God saved the best until the last. On the sixth and last day of creation, God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth” (Genesis 1:26). Man would be more than the animals—he would be in the image of God.

Therefore, God followed the following procedure in making man. First of all, he made him a physical body from the dust, and then gave him an eternal Soul. “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7). Thus, the animals had only physical life, but man had both physical and eternal life.

When God made man and woman, He placed them in a beautiful, growing, watered, garden that He had prepared for them. The garden had all kinds of trees, but the center attraction of it was the tree of life. In fact, there was only one tree that God declared to be off limits to this first couple; it was the tree of death (Genesis 2:17). Therefore, they had a choice between life and death.

Perhaps the saddest thing recorded in the Bible is the fact that this first couple chose death—they obeyed the serpent and disobeyed God. The important question now is, “How will the God of light, life, and love respond?”

Here is the answer, Adam and Eve, along with all generations must face the certainty of physical death—”in Adam all die” (1 Corinthians 15:22). This is the sad news! However, there is also some good news. God also promised spiritual life through the seed of woman (Genesis 3:15).

GOD AND LOVE

Why didn’t God let Adam and Eve die? After all, they had chosen death! The only way to answer this question is that He was motivated by love. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). But the question might be asked, “Did the love of God overcome the fact that this first couple had become sinners?” Yes, God’s love was demonstrated regardless of this fact! “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

Always keep in mind that God Himself IS LOVE! The apostle John verifies this truth: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:7-10).

As Jesus went about teaching His message of salvation, He lived and taught love. Love your enemies, love your brethren, love the Father, and to His disciples, love one another. Among the things He wanted to leave with His disciples was the importance of love. When the world saw them, Jesus wanted them to be identified by love.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34, 35). Love had existed in the Old Testament, but Jesus exalted it to its greatest heights. He chose love as the badge for all who followed Him to wear. In this sense, Jesus identified love as a new commandment.

The apostle Paul taught the exalted kind of love that was lived and commanded by Jesus. Before expressing what love will do, Paul showed its importance and how love affects all the acts of Christianity: “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).

Therefore, among the many words that can be used to describe the greatness of God, surely the words LIGHT, LIFE, and LOVE would describe Him best!

The three persons of the Godhead have a numerical essence of one. That means they equally share the same divine essence or nature. All the attributes of God belong to each of the three persons. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each possess all the substance and all the attributes of deity. The plurality of the Godhead is therefore not a plurality essences, but a plurality of personal distinction. God is not Three and One, but Three in one.

The false teachers misrepresent this doctrine as tri-theism. They say 1+1+1=3 but this is the wrong mathematical formula. The correct formula is not addition but multiplication. 1X1X1=1.

The Eucharist is a word the ancients used to describereality—both/and ultimate reality. Through Christ's Passion, Death and Resurrection the Greek εὐχαριστία (eucharistia), which in English translates to thanksgiving, has been elevated to amysterious oneness with the Real Person and Real Presence of Jesus Christ, the Second Person ofthe Most Holy Trinity, both fully God and fully man.

We must be careful when stating a premise like "TheEucharist is not a Weapon."

"Dating God" is another easily misunderstood modern construct.

The Catholic way of pondering reality makes one firstconsider the argument that the Eucharist is both a weapon and not a weapon. Itmight also be true that if the Eucharist is a weapon then it is both a Weaponof Mass Construction and a Weapon of Mass Destruction.

There is ample proof that a protracted battle is raging for the heartand soul of mankind and that the Body of Christ is central to this life–deathstruggle. Going deeper and to the source,the Holy Eucharist is the center of the Body of Christ and the HeavenlyEnd for all the saved (our ultimate objective).

Now if military science is applied to mortal combat ofa spiritual and temporal nature, it is certain that the twin concepts: centerof mass (Carl Von Clausewitz's Center of Gravity), and key terrain (vital ground) must be clearly understood. It has been statedthroughout history that whoever occupies and holds the high ground at theend of the day wins (discounting instances of protracted siegewarfare). Can anyone forget the children's game“King of the Hill?” Now, what was the objective of King of the Hill? I think you get the point.

I recall the US Army's Nine Principles ofWar and the acronym MOSSMOUSE. The firstM stands for Mass. The O stands for Objective.

It can be shown that the Holy Eucharist is both a Weapon of Mass Construction (defined as the prime instrument for building up the Body of Christ) and also Key Terrain, the Keystone of our Faith, the high ground (in repose in the Tabernacle, the Holy of Holies).

So, what are we to say about vanquishing the enemy. Does not the devil cower when the HolyEucharist is lifted up and venerated by the masses? Does he not hate the True Light of the FifthLuminous Mystery, the Light that dispels the darkness? Is not the best defense a good offense?

In this sense, the Holy Eucharist might also be viewed as aWeapon of Mass Destruction. Radiating the Light of Truth in charity (the principle, Offense)is directed at evil at work in this world. The sanctifying grace of the Holy Eucharistis all powerful. It is the ultimateWeapon of Light, to be used against the former Angel of Light and his minions.

Talk about strange days indeed:

When the PBS McLaughlin Group listed the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) demands last Friday (and presumably this is a univeral declaration, since it is is a universal movement) we see the utter absurdity of the "dictatorship of relativism" at work in the real world.

These seem like absolute demands:

1. Universal (catholic) Healthcare for All

2. Universal (catholic) $20 Minimum Wage

3. Universal (catholic) Guaranteed Living Income

4. Universal (catholic) Debt Forgiveness

I sense that the liberal wing of Catholicism is squarely behind these "social justice issues." They see the demands as a step toward achieving a univeral utopia on earth. Good grief! What about the redemptive value of suffering? What about the poor that will always be with us? What about our reward being in heaven?

Is this going to be the new face of Catholicism in America? President Obama and his nominally Catholic cronies (Pelosi, Biden, Sibelius, Panetta, etal) hope so.

God help us if our bishops show any support at all for this mindless charade that is nothing short of destabilizing chaos leading straight downhill to Socialism.

As bad as Capitalism is (and it has many serious flaws) it it far superior to this.

Christian Distributism is the only viable alternative...and how can that be tried if the Catholic social ethic is undermined by law (Obamacare HR 1179 / S 1467). No truly Catholic hospitals and social services, no truly charitable service.

Distributism cannot be tried unless we are both free to pursue our own happiness and also free to choose the happiness of others over our own (i.e., true Christian charity).

If we believe canned homogenized so-called happiness is a universal human right, we are beyond help for we are already in Huxley's Brave New World.

Well if one realizes that three other physicists derivedvariants of this mass-energy equivalence formula apart from and before Albert Einstein’s Annus Mirabilis in 1905, maybe nothing.

After all, they did this without reference to either the specialor general theory of relativity. For good reason one might conclude that E=mc²stands on its own—c is still c and it is still the conversion constant (thespeed of light in a vacuum).

Given the current belief that a neutrino particle has small yet unmeasurable mass and that based on CERN' Opera experiment, it can travel >c (something that cannot occur in Einstein’s understanding of space-time) general relativity could be on trial.

The Most Studied Artifact in History

The Shroud of Turin is arguably the single most studied artifact in human history. It is a piece of ancient linen measuring 14 feet 3 inches long by 3 feet 7 inches wide. The bloodstained surface of the Shroud is marked with a negative image of the undistorted front and back sides of a naked man who appears to have been severely beaten and crucified—an ancient Roman form of torture and execution.

For centuries, based on the Gospel accounts, many Christians have believed that Christ’s body was wrapped in the Shroud when He was placed in a borrowed tomb in Jerusalem 2000 years ago.

In 2004, Dame Piczek became fascinated by the total absence of distortion of the Shroud image, a physical impossibility if the body had been lying on solid rock. Piczek’s work strongly suggests that the image of Jesus was projected as a quantum hologram onto the cloth as His body underwent the process of Resurrection.

“The entire Resurrection process is akin to the Big Bang creation of the universe when something was created from nothing,” explains Piczek. “You can read the science of the Shroud, such as total lack of gravity, lack of entropy (without gravitational collapse), no time, no space—it conforms to no known law of physics.”

Dame Piczek created a one-fourth size sculpture of the man in the Shroud. When viewed from the side, it appears as if the man is suspended in mid air (see graphic, below), indicating that the image defies previously accepted science. The phenomenon of the image brings us to a true event horizon, a moment when all of the laws of physics change drastically.

Dame Piczek contends that the image was created in an infinitesimally small fraction of a second and its formation was absent of the effects of gravity.

The Physics Behind the Holographic Image

Dame Piczek explains the complicated physics behind the image on the Shroud: “As quantum time collapses to absolute zero (time stopped moving) in the tomb of Christ, the two event horizons (one stopping events from above and the other stopping the events from below at the moment of the zero time collapse) going through the body get infinitely close to each other and eliminate each other (causing the image to print itself on the two sides of the Shroud).

In general relativity, an event horizon is a boundary in space-time, most often an area surrounding a black hole, beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer. Light emitted from beyond the horizon can never reach the observer, and anything that passes through the horizon from the observer’s side appears to freeze in place.

Attempting to make an object approaching the horizon re-main stationary with respect to an observer requires applying a force whose magnitude becomes unbounded (becoming infinite) the closer it gets.

The description of black holes given by general relativity is known to be only an approximation, and it is expected that quantum gravity effects become significant near the vicinity of the event horizon. It is this apparent suspension of gravity that underlies Dame Piczek’s analysis.

“According to the nature of event horizons the dead body must have left its image on the two surfaces of the event horizons. At the time of the explosion (when time stopped) of the event horizons these images were ejected onto both sides of the Shroud, with the body hovering parallel to the event horizons. This explains why the image shows a dead man, not the risen body, and also explains why the image is negative (went from a positive body image to the negative image like a camera film negative). This indicates how the image got onto the cloth.”

If confirmed, this discovery is expected to yield a totally new perspective on the very “singularity” attributed to the Creation of the universe in the first place. Piczek’s discovery—and those of other scientists and re-searchers who have studied the Shroud—is presented in The Fabric of Time, a television documentary and DVD from Grizzly Adams® Productions.

Three-Dimensional Hologram

Also featured in the film, The Fabric of Time, is a three-dimensional, anatomically accurate hologram of a crucified man. Working independently of Piczek, a team of Dutch scientists led by Dr. Petrus Soons used laser technology to convert two-dimensional photographic negatives of the image on the Shroud.

Among the several discoveries from the holographic image was the identification of the two coins placed over the eyes. These appear to be “widow’s mites,” minted in 29 A.D. in the reign of Tiberius (and which, due to their diminutive value, were not circulated outside of Israel.)

The DVD copies of The Fabric of Time include 3-D glasses to better view and appreciate the holographic images.

This documentary film is based in part on the following books: The Shroud of Turin by Ian Wilson (Doubleday); The Blood and the Shroud by Ian Wilson (Orion Publishing Group); and, the Shroud of Turin: An Adventure of Discovery by Mary and Alan Whanger, M.D. (Providence House).

This DVD is certain to stimulate a great deal of discussion as we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ during this coming Passover season!

The genesis of this current blog was a screenplay that I began to write in the winter of 1982. On an excursion from Germany to London, England—the ITT bus tour during Christmas time—I remember being moved to leave the formal schedule so as to roam streets and neighborhoods and see the "real" London. What I witnessed deeply affected me.

On that December 25th, I was inexplicably drawn to wind through Hyde Park, pausing to gaze at reality through the various reflecting pools that dotted the green way. I was soon amazed when I chanced upon the scene of various orators at Speakers Corner (which at that time I never even knew existed). I stood in the pouring rain that odd Christmas morning and LISTENED. I started the screenplay, Reflecting Pool, on the bus ride back to the Channel Ferry.

I also recall my first trip ever through Oklahoma City. I believe it was the summer of 2004. Without any prior knowledge of where the Murrah Building was, I chose to pay a visit to another "ground zero" when I exited I-35 South. Without seeking directions and without any signs, I was guided by the mysterious hand of Providence right to the spot, to a future Reflecting Pool. I remember reading many of the personal tributes and prayers that were left on the storm fence that surrounded the site. I wept when I saw Jesus' statue next to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. And Jesus wept.

Today, as I watch the 9/11 World Trade Center 10th Memorial Anniversary I can't help but think of the two Reflecting Absence pools in personal terms. My dad was there that fateful morning. Maybe for only the tenth time in his 50+ years of conducting business as a life insurance rep in Metropolitan NY/NJ. He was in the PATH Train underground food court. The story he related was that he ate two old fashioned donuts with his coffee that morning. He was about to have a third after which he planned to ascend one of the towers for business. He had a decision to make and then changed his mind and went to the subway tube to travel to the Metropolitan Tower Building at 23rd Street and Madison Avenue "The Light That Never Fails."

About ten minutes later, the subway came to a screeching halt and the passengers were instructed to exit and climb to the street in Lower Manhattan to watch the unfolding horror.

I believe it was St. Michael the Archangel who guided my father away from evil to ultimate safety.

That's what the two Reflecting Pools will always mean to me...now that my dad has moved on to his heavenly reward.

HE WAS A poet. He saw for our eyes and heard for our ears, and our silent words were upon His lips; and His fingers touched what we could not feel.

Out of His heart there flew countless singing birds to the north and to the south, and the little flowers on the hill-sides stayed His steps towards the heavens.

Oftentimes I have seen Him bending down to touch the blades of grass. And in my heart I have heard Him say: "Little green things, you shall be with me in my kingdom, even as the oaks of Besan, and the cedars of Lebanon."

He loved all things of loveliness, the shy faces of children, and the myrrh and frankincense from the south.

He loved a pomegranate or a cup of wine given Him in kindness; it mattered not whether it was offered by a stranger in the inn or by a rich host.

And He loved the almond blossoms. I have seen Him gathering them into His hands and covering His face with the petals, as though He would embrace with His love all the trees in the world.

He knew the sea and the heavens; and He spoke of pearls which have light that is not of this light, and of stars that are beyond our night.

He knew the mountains as eagles know them, and the valleys as they are known by the brooks and the streams. And there was a desert in His silence and a garden in His speech.

Once I too deemed myself a poet, but when I stood before Him in Bethany, I knew what it is to hold an instrument with but a single string before one who commands all instruments. For in His voice there was the laughter of thunder and the tears of rain, and the joyous dancing of trees in the wind.

Described as classical realism these works showed impressive technical skill, but they did little to make him famous. His sense of composition was severely limited.

Now since the Sun's mass is directly related to the gravitational pull it exerts upon the Earth and the other planets in our solar system, it is a certainty that our "Living Planet" depends upon this mass ratio being just what it is. It would be an interesting test to see just how much deviation would be tolerated before life would cease to exist because of an orbit closer or further away from the Sun.

If the evil one is the Father of Lies, and if he works to obfuscate the truth by mixing in one lie with much truth, it is possible that he can reveal something about God through his actions against God?

Is it not true that in Judas' satan inspired betrayal of Jesus we see the Love of God, His mercy and forgiveness?

Is it not true that as a result of Longinus' thrust of a spear into the heart of Christ the blood and water of Divine Mercy flowed over mankind?

God's mysterious purpose is revealed in many ways, sometimes as good coming from evil.

Now what if an artist goes out of her way to blaspheme the real presence of Christ. If this artist is inspired by the evil one might there still be some truth exposed in the "creative effort?"

The crucifix below is part of a collection of "pop art" that attack the truth of sacred objects in the Catholic Church. And yet, might there be an unintended message sent in the substitution of E=mc² for INRI (Jesus Christ King of the Jews).

I will leave it up to the reader to ponder this further.

In physics the word mass or its Latin equivalent massa came into common usage at the beginning of the 17th century. In his Lexicon technicum, John Harris states that “Masse, this word is used by the natural philosophers to express the Quantity of Matter in any body” (Jammer, 1964, p.7). In Latin masse means a lump of dough. Slowly the notion was generalized to signify a lump of anything. The Latin masse is derived from the Greek maza, where it means barley cake. In the ancient Greek literature maza denotes a kind of bread inferior in quality to the wheaten bread (artos).

If we delve a little deeper into the etymological roots, then things get somewhat murky. Divergent schools of thought emerge. One view is that the Greeks borrowed it from Hebrew, where it connotes unleavened bread. A dramatically opposite view is that the Cretan term found its way into Hebrew – courtesy the warlike Philistines.

Anyway the exact order of precedence is immaterial as far as physics is concerned. Stepping back into the stream of ideas that wend their way through, to the modern notion of mass, we see that the trail leads us inevitably to the Bible. The Old Testament is replete with instances wherein fermented bread is proscribed and instead the unleavened maza approved in relation to certain sacrificial rituals. Fermentation was equated with putrefaction and regarded as symbolizing moral turpitude or corruption. According to Matthew 16:6, Christ says “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducee’s”. Thus it is widely held by the Christian theologians that it was the unleavened maza that was consumed at the last supper. The fact that during the re-enactment of the last supper in the Christian ritual of Eucharist unleavened bread is served, lends further credence to this view. It is pertinent, in the context to note that the very name of the Eucharistic service is `mass’.

If the terms mass and Mass are so closely related, one in the physical realm and one in the spiritual realm, might there be good reason to consider the possibility of a true both/and convergence at work.

Both mass and Mass have to do with gathering.

Both mass and Mass have to do with nourishment.

"This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as the fathers ate, and died; he that eateth this bread shall live for ever."

God's good creation is based upon physical properties that He orders to govern the cosmos. E=mc² appears to relate both to the Son of God, Jesus Christ (through whom all things were made) and to physical matter (which at its apex in Holy Mass is manifest as Christ's glorified human body).

The rest is pure mystery.

PS: Rest mass (m₀) is the scientific description of the term m for mass as it applies to the famous equation. Isn't that exactly what Jesus desires? He reveals this in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

What do you imagine, remember or feel when you see a Communion host? The round, thin wafer of bread symbolizes many things to many people. For me, the Circular white slice of ground wheat Causes deep rooted awe and far reaching wonder.

As a Child growing up in a large Roman Catholic family, the Eucharist was Central to my religious education. I Can vividly recall a photo from our family album showing the family gathered around a young boy of seven dressed immaculately in a white suit. How proud and Complete I felt that Spring day.

Recently, I was asked to describe what images or thoughts Come to mind after receiving Communion. Upon reflection, the vision of a large, gold monstrance Containing a Circular white host Came to mind. I remembered the Holy Thursday evenings of my youth when my father and brothers would go to our local Church for an hour of prayer. We would kneel before this elaborately forged vessel shaped in the form of a sunburst called a monstrance. The vessel Contained a 2- to 3-inch diameter Consecrated host mounted in a Circular glass Case placed at the Center. Our vigil prayer in front of the monstrance Continued into the late hours of Holy Thursday night and Centered on the remembrance of Jesus' night in the Garden of Gethsemani. The experience for me was always very sacred, very masculine, very reverent and very special.

Today Communion brings back similar feelings of reverence and specialness. I still feel special after receiving the Eucharist on Sundays with my Children. The minutes after Choosing Communion are, without a doubt, my most sacred moments. Similarly, whenever I see a picture of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemani on the night before He died, my mind drifts back to the evenings of Closeness spent with my father. The memories give me a Connectedness to my past and my now deceased Dad.

Another sacred memory about Communion Comes from a trip I once made to Paris, France as a pilot for USX Corporation. I was strangely drawn to visit the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart) which sets high on a hill north of Paris like a huge white monstrance. I remember seeing the sparkling white Church towers from my hotel window while feeling a strong desire to visit the Church. When I entered the Basilica, I felt the sacredness. At first, I noticed only a few people scattered throughout the pews kneeling in prayer. The time was early evening on a weekday. Then I saw a large, gold monstrance elevated on a stand high above the main altar. I was struck with awe and reverence at being in this spectacular Church, under the Circumstances of a setting sun, in the presence of a huge monstrance Containing the Eucharist.

The experience in France Couldn't help but make me think of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a native Frenchman and favorite author of mine. I thought of how he might have also prayed in the Basilica and how the Church's splendor might have sparked him to write his awesome book, The Divine Milieu. Chardin has profoundly influenced my understanding of Communion and knowledge of who Christ is. Even though Chardin is often Criticized for having too mystical an idea of who Christ is, his image of Christ is one that is rooted in science and, for me, causes awe and wonder. On that day in the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur, Chardin's idea or wisdom of Christ burst across me as brightly as the rays of a setting sun as I knelt before the sparkling monstrance. My understanding of Communion has never been the same.

There was a time in my life, after the age of seven, that I did not feel the same Connectedness to Christ I now feel. I remember a time when I felt foolish seeing grown men praying in front of metal monstrances. I remember thinking how ridiculous the notion was of bread being Christ's actual Body and Blood. For many years my understanding of Communion was in deep Crisis and Chaos.

Today my wisdom of Communion in no longer in Crisis. The Chaos has been transformed into a new understanding of Creation. Thanks to a Jesuit priest named Chardin and others like him, Communion has new meaning. Now, in the same way that Chardin's understanding was enveloped in his scientific work, my wisdom of Christ is Conscious and Charged in science.

For me, the most vivid Concept Connecting Christ and science Comes in an understanding of Einstein's famous equation, E=mC2. Consider the implications this fantastic equation describing how matter (m) Can be Converted to energy (E) when acted on or factored by light speed (C) squared.

Just what is C2 in this equation? What is C Cross C? Is it the velocity of light squared or is it a deeper understanding of Christ as the Light of the World squared? Can the Concept of Communion, the Conversion of bread into spirit, be linked with the Concept of Converting matter into energy? Can the Concept of Concrete fact that is expressed in this equation be linked to the more abstract Concept of transubstantiation where spirit is Condensed and then bread Consecrated into Christ's Body and Blood -- or the Converse where man after eating the bread is transformed into the Mystical Body of Christ? Can this knowledge of C2 be the C Cross C Converting the Heart, or Coeur, of man into the energy of light, love and life?

What does my awe and reverence of Communion have to do with my infatuation with the letter "C"? Why does my Consciousness Concern itself with words that begin in "C" such as Communion and Confirmation. What is the mathematical sum of Closeness and Community + Connectedness and Chardin + CCD and Church + Core and Crisis + Circular and Completeness + Concern and Concentration + Compassion and Compression + Conversion and Concentric + Chaos and Creation + Character and Christology?

Why does the expression "C2" mean either the product of (C X C) or the mathematical sum of (C + C + C + C ...) for C number of additions? Why does Cross (X) mean multiplication? Or why is Cross (+) the symbol of addition? Why did Christ give up or give out his Spirit on a Cross? Why does the Einstein Conversion factor, C2, for Changing matter into energy equal a quantity that is almost infinite in size and speed and yet still Considered a finite reality in time. Can all these "C's" represent an understanding of time as Change that is both infinite Chance and finite Choice?

Why have international scientists Chosen the letter "C" to be the universal symbol of light? Why have biblical writers, starting with Genesis, Conceptualized both God and Christ as light? Could it be that the Holy Spirit is this light squared?

Why has science, with its international Community of disciples, formed the first truly Collective body that is universal in Character, united in its acceptance of open inquiry and devoid in its devotion to dictatorial dogma?

Scientific discovery has progressed Continuously by Cooperation of global scientists amidst even the atom bombs of World War II which epitomized the pinnacle proof of Einstein's E=mC2 equation. However now for me, the sunburst or bomb burst that warms our world daily is fueled by a reverent understanding of this equation ... a knowledge that states the scientific fact that in our Sun, individual hydrogen atoms give themselves up or out to each other daily forming more Complex helium atoms in the process of releasing light. In the same way, people give themselves to each other in unselfish ways daily forming more Complex and Connected Christian Communities releasing love and life. For me, Einstein's equation produces a wisdom of how the infinitesimal loss of mass that occurs as a result of four hydrogen atoms combining together to make one helium atom produces an almost infinite amount energy in the form of heat and light -- the same light which heats the blood flowing in my body.

What a remarkable understanding of the bridge between the infinitesimal world of the inner atom and the infinite world of outer space -- a bridge described as the bread of life -- a bridge that is both deep rooted and far reaching.

Is it any wonder that I now marvel at science and its fields of physic, psychology and biology. Consider physics with its CXC Concept of the Convoluted Continuum. Consider psychology with its Consideration of Collective Consciousness. Consider biology with its Connection in evolution to Chardin's Convergent Cosmogenesis. Is it any wonder that my prayers Center on Communion and the Circular "Son" burst around the host.

Is it any wonder that I Conceive the abstract Concept of the Holy Spirit to be Christ "squared" Concentrating his presence throughout the Cosmos Converting matter amid time and space. Is it any wonder that I teach my Class that Confirmation is a Chance in time to Change our Choice -- a Chance to Choose Christ. Truly this is Christ in a Cosmic sense and Cause for a Child's imagination dressed all in white.

Arching over all these mysteries
like a multi-coloured rainbow
is the huge mystery of God’s
love for us.

This is the awesome power of this kind of remembering. This memorial meal is a rainbow with one end in the death and resurrection of Jesus 2000 years ago, arching over the centuries and coming to rest in the present moment. The pot of gold that we find at the end of the rainbow is the forgiving and transforming power of the risen Christ, made available to us through the Eucharist. It can help us overcome our innate selfishness and other failings. The Eucharist helps us to manage our lives.

Not only does the Paschal meal allow the Jews to enter into sacred time and bring a past event into the present, it also incorporates the future because they always look forward to celebrating ‘next year in Jerusalem’. We look forward to celebrating the fullness of this meal in the heavenly banquet. Sacred events collapse past, present and future into one mysterious now. At Mass we need to be sensitive to this experience of timelessness. Past, present and future have merged into one eternal moment.

The spirituality of the Eucharist brings together all the mysteries of the material world and all the mysteries of the world of spirit into one unified mystery. With tongue in cheek, I suggest we dare call the Eucharist the Theory of Everything.

I hope this book has helped you to appreciate the cosmic dimension of the Eucharist. When we take part in the Mass we are participating in an event that sends ripples into the heart of every person in the church, every person in the world and right throughout the universe, just as the microwave background radiation reaches to the furthest galaxies.

True Colors

A massive restoration project has begun in St. Peter’s Square, designed to restore the columns, statues, and moldings to their original vivid colors. The project is expected to take 30 months.

The restoration work has already begun on the columns, designed by Bernini. The work will also include all of the colonnade, the pillars, the fountains, and even the lamps in St. Peter’s Square.

Teapot562, I think you are right. Einstein proved that E=mc², that is the total energy of a mass is equal to the mass times the speed of light square. And light is a form of energy. I remember my professor saying that we have figured out how to convert mass into light and energy, but what would really be neat is learning how to controlably convert it back to mass. I told him that has been done. Jesus was able to walk through a wall and then eat a fish. He remembered the story and said he stood corrected.
