Benedict's Binding Both/Ands

J.M.J. + O.B.T. + M.G.R.*

Take a moment and consider these lines from
JESUS of Nazareth
PART 2
(2011)

In relating the Resurrection
confessions and narratives
in the New Testament
Pope Benedict XVI
 explains the following:

...the confessional tradition crystallizes the essentials
...we find a combination of two formulae...
...chain of reception and transmission...
...this link...is the source of both the unity of faith and its universally binding nature.

In its nucleus the faith, even down to its literal formulation, is one—it binds all Christians.

(pp.248-250)

Sounds to me as if Pope Benedict is seeking to make a critical point.  This is attempted through the language of physics and the primacy of both/and Catholic thought.

It reminds me of the point he made while traveling up the Rhine River to the Twin Towers of Cologne Cathedral for World Youth Day in 2005.

This Year of the Eucharist (2005) was also the International Year of Physics celebrating the centenary of Albert Einstein's annus mirabilis and
E=mc2

Rheinenergie
was emblazoned on its hull.

Where have you gone
Joseph Ratzinger...
our Church needs you
to come back to the throne
...you alone.

Sincerely yours in Jesus through Mary,
