Why Two Angels in White?

J.M.J. + O.B.T. + M.G.R.*

From yesterday's Gospel Reading at Holy Mass:

St. John’s Gospel 20:11-16But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been. And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken my Lord, and I don't know where they laid him." When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" She thought it was the gardener and said to him, "Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni," which means Teacher.

…look back to Exodus and connect the dots…

Exodus 25 10-22
Have them make a chest of acacia wood--two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high. Overlay it with pure gold, both inside and out, and make a gold moulding around it... And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover.

…look forward Hebrews and connect the dots…

Book of Hebrews 9:4,9This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron's staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant... This is an illustration for the present time (symbolic for the present age).

+ + +

The Ark of the Covenant is a powerful symbol and reality that God gifts to his chosen people.

The Blessed Mother is the New Ark of the Covenant and in her virginal womb and in the Tabernacle we see Jesus is really present, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity...

The three objects in the Ark prefigure Jesus Christ. They are symbols of the Trinitarian life of the Christian Church.

1. The stone tablets, The Ten Commandments given to Moses---a symbol of the Law, the gift from the Father. (Jesus is the cornerstone)

2. The gold jar containing the manna---a symbol of the Holy Eucharist, the gift of the Son. (Jesus is really present, the Bread of Life)

3. The rod of Aaron which blossomed---a symbol of the Fruit that flows from obedience, a gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church whose sanctity and truth is guarded by that same Holy Spirit. (Jesus is the Tree of Life).

The Blessed Mother Mary helps us to see the relationships that are found in the Ark. The two gold cherubim, Pillar of Cloud and Pillar of Fire...the two White Angels, the Mercy Seat and the Truth and Justice of the Resurrected Christ...it all fits together.

The Shroud of Turin holds a clue to the mystery of the Resurrected Light of the World. It points to the crossover between what is Spiritual and what is physical, and how light is involved in both.

The same can be said for the formula for the conservation of mass and energy, E=mc2.
