The Stone the Builders Rejected, laid in Stone

J.M.J. + O.B.T. + M.G.R.*

When Jesus was born on that Christmas day 2000+ years ago, He took His first breath in a cold, dark white limestone cave, a shepherd's shelter in the foothills of Bethlehem, and He was wrapped in swaddling clothes.

When His earthly life ended on Good Friday—after His last painful breath that allowed Him to utter the words, "Father, into your hands I commend My Spirit"—He was laid in a cold, dark white limestone cave in a garden, just outside the wall of Jerusalem, and He was wrapped in a Shroud.

Might these two bookends be pointing to the reason why ROCK and STONE are so important to Christian believers. If Simon was renamed ROCK for a purpose, then isn't it just possible that another STONE was being called upon to serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?

Albert Einstein was a man named STONE from birth, one who apparently believed that Jesus was a "luminous figure" but never acknowledged "the Nazarene" as God.

I sometimes find myself engaged in a "thought experiment" envisioning what might have happened at the 1905 eureka moment when E=mc2 came to light. What if Mileva Maric, Albert's first wife (and collaborator) a Greek Orthodox believer at the time had exclaimed:

"Divine Action/energeia, Albert don't you see? This is the link that takes all things back to their origin, Jesus Christ! God from God, Light from Light, Christ-mass and the two consecrations of the Holy Eucharist/Divine Action/Energeia, it all fits together and makes perfect sense, and why wouldn't it? Look Albert, even the Old Testament, the Israelites are part of it. According to Moses, God's first spoken words, "Let there be light!" And Moses' face on Mt. Sinai and the twin horns of light! And the Ark of the Covenant— an energy source radiating spiritual and physical light! And what about the Transfiguration, with Moses and Elijah as witnesses, LIGHT! Oh Albert can't you see? God has given you a great key to understanding His handiwork....Albert? Albert?

Mileva might never have spoken another word about it. Apparently she "converted" to Catholicism soon after the annus mirabilis of 1905.

There are many other mysteries to be found in Albert Einstein's storied life.

And why wouldn't there be? Like Jesus, he too was a sign of contradiction.

Barbara Streisand (another gifted Jewish celebrity, who sings Christmas Songs and yet has not accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior) belted out an infectious Laura Nyro song Stoney End in 1970. The song's lyrics echo the "deeply religious" time in Einstein's young life and his choice...

I was born from love
and my poor mother worked the mines.

I was raised on the good book Jesus
till I read between the lines.

Now I don't believe I want to see the morning.

Going down the Stoney End,
I never wanted to go down the Stoney End.

Mama, let me start all over.
Cradle me, mama, cradle me again.

So what if Barbara Streisand, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, Billy Joel all converted and dedicated the remainder of their lives to the Rock who saves us?

People who need people are the luckiest people...

I am a Rock, I am an Island...
...Jesus loves you more than you will know...

...Come out Virginia, don't let me wait,
You Catholic girls start much too late...

There is hope that the gift of making beautifully sounding,
heart moving music will be returned to the One
who bestowed the gifts upon the Jewish people.

The choice is theirs, to serve God or to serve mammon.

Sincerely yours in Jesus and Mary,
