I think I am beginning to understand what lies at the heart of the matter with our anemic Catholic Church and we must listen to Pope Benedict XVI, for he is giving us a life-saving remedy.

I think we are suffering from a oft-broken and time-hardened ticker, a sickly heart that is beating at a catatonic rate due to years of unresolved heartache and heartburn.

I wish we could enlist the aid of the three wise Jewish doctors that perfomed successful open heart surgery on my son John Michael at age 13 months. They at least could insert a patch into the donut hole that is the hollowed out core of our dissention filled, universal Church.

When Peter refuses to breath the same air as Paul (and vice versa); when St. Albert the Great and St. Thomas Aquinas refuse to engage in conversation with St. Sharbel and St. John Chrysostom; we have a breakdown in communication that impedes the blood flow to all members of the Mystical Body of Christ. Honestly, it may be that simple.

And why has this occured? Segmented Truth has a lot to do with it, that and an over specialization that flows from careerism and complacency that is engendered by comfort.

There is pride in the mix too, for we humans have all but forgotten that the four chambers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus beat as one.

The results of our forgetfulness?

We are divided and seemingly conquered...

Or are we?
