I doubt that I was the only one whose immediate reaction was "Now he has gone a little too far!"
In 2002 when I read that Pope John Paul's Rosarium Virginis Mariae had announced the new Mysteries of Light I was shocked. Why would he be tampering with the vaulted, centuries old tradition of the Catholic Church, the Holy Rosary? Three other questions quickly came to mind:
For what purpose?
If the past five years have taught us anything, it is the sheer inspiration of Pope John Paul II, the Great's sixth sense of pastoral leadership, and his relationship to the Blessed Mother and the Cross of Calvary.
As the darkness grows, as the "culture of death" tightens its grip on humanity, it appears that there is a critical need for us all to be LIGHT SENSITIVE to TRUE LIGHT, to discern the signs of the times and to respond with humble resignation to the will of the Father.
That is the lesson of the mysteries. They teach us to ponder His LIGHT in His LIFE.
